Acting allows you to be someone you are not. It enables you to experience what it's like to be almost anyone and what it's like to be in almost any situation. It can allow you to be a bad person, a good person, a rich person, a poor person, an old person or a young person...anyone!

Acting is truly magical in how it can transform and transport you.

The world would likely be a much better place if everyone especially in their formative years could act out what it's like to be a bully and to be bullied, to be a thief and a victim thievery or doctor or a patient.

You get the idea. Acting inhibits mind, heart, and soul growth in a safe world of pretend. The act of acting is a most amazing gift bestowed upon humankind yet, so few ever step outside of themselves into this most wonderous place...so few know how wonderful it is to be an actor.

"It is likely that nothing would benefit humanity more than if we all could, via acting, try on another's experience like trying on another pair of shoes...their shoes." - Kevin Wolf

Puppetry allows the puppeteer to act through the puppet. Puppets are a wonderfully comfortable medium for beginning acting, as well as, putting your creativity into high gear with developing stories, writing scripts and more.

Writers and creatives often find that talking with a puppet can spark new ideas and enhance their creativity.

This phenomenon is known as "externalization", or as coined by ConvoActive, "mono-improv phenomena" or MIP dialogue.

By projecting their thoughts and ideas onto the puppet, writers, and creatives can explore different perspectives and scenarios more freely. This process can help them overcome creative blocks and generate fresh ideas.

Puppetry encourages imaginative thinking and problem-solving by allowing individuals to step outside their usual thought patterns and engage with their ideas in a playful, non-judgmental way.

It creates a safe space for experimentation, which can be particularly beneficial for storytelling and character development.

Have you ever tried using puppets or other creative tools to brainstorm ideas?

MIP dialogue is a fascinating concept in the realm of creativity. It involves projecting internal thoughts, feelings, or ideas onto an external object or medium.

Here are a few key aspects of how MIP dialogue can enhance creativity:

  1. Perspective Shift: By externalizing thoughts, creatives can view their ideas from a different angle. This shift in perspective can reveal new insights and solutions that might not be apparent when ideas are kept internal.

  2. Reduction of Mental Load: MIP dialogue ideas can help reduce cognitive load. When thoughts are put out into the world, it frees up mental space, making it easier to process and develop new ideas.

  3. Playfulness and Experimentation: Engaging with external objects like puppets encourages a playful and experimental mindset. This can break down barriers to creativity and open up new avenues for exploration.

  4. Emotional Distance: Externalizing thoughts can create a sense of emotional distance, allowing individuals to explore ideas without the pressure of personal attachment. This can lead to more objective and creative thinking.
